Lexington Senior High School honored its 2019 Spring sports athletes at their sports awards program on Wednesday.

In Varsity Women’s Soccer, Mollie Zehmer was named Defensive Player of the Year. Sophie Peoples was name Team MVP. Raquel Cervantes was named Most Improved. Valeria Sanchez received the Coaches Award. Sophie Peoples was named to the Central Carolina Conference Women’s Soccer Team. Fatima Bahena, Ava Kelly – Rajan, Noa Jahdai Sanchez and Kimberly Villa received the LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher. Joceylyn Meza, Raquel Cervantes, Amaya Hurtada, Galilea Canul, Andrea Martinez – Sandavol, Sophie Peoples, Alexandra Rodriguez, Eva Salmeron, Noemi Santibanez-Bahena and Mollie Zehmer all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.

In Softball, Danasia Bray received the Team MVP Award. Allison Zavala - Giron received the Most Improved Player Award. Alondra Luna and Precious Allah both received the Coaches Award. Alondra Luna received the LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher. Precious Allah, Danasia Bray, Anaizja Newell and Alisson Zavala-Giron all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.



In Varsity Baseball, Co – MVP Awards went to Ja’Mir McNeair and Khaleb Craven. Co-Most Improved Awards went to Tev’vohn Knotts and William Taylor. Khaleb Craven received the All Purpose Award. Jonathan Pacheco Rodriguez and William Taylor both received the LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher. Ja’Mir McNeair received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.

In Varsity Men’s Tennis, Andy Casados received the Team MVP Award. Co-Most Improved Awards went to Pablo Cruz and Kevin Luna. Andy Casados was named to the Central Carolina Conference Men’s Tennis Team. William Burke, Andy Casados, Jeyson Grimaldo Flores, Viktor Lopez Juarez, Daniel Bahena, Jair Cardenas, Brandon Lopez Martinez, Marcos Peredes and Kevin Luna all received the LSHS academic awards along with the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. Andy Casados made it to the NCHSAA 2A State Quarter Finals.

In Men’s Golf, Luke Thornhill was named Golf MVP. Antonio Pulizzotto received the Most Improved Award. Ricardo Bahena – Nunez received the Best Sportsmanship Award. Ricardo Bahena – Nunez, Antonio Pulizzotto , Gage Sellers and Luke Thornhill all received the LSHS academic awards along with the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher.

In Men’s Track, Nijuan Mayorquin was named Men’s Track MVP. Jahamani Wallace received the Most Improved Award. Nijuan Mayorquin and Jahamani were both named to the Central Carolina Conference Men’s Track Team. Keith Johnson, Justin Sherill and Xavier Wall all Travarius Moore and Cesar Zavala all received the LSHS academic award for maintaining a 3.0 GPA and higher. LSHS academic awards for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and higher. Trevor Kindle and Travarius Moore both received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. Nijuan Mayorquin finished 8th in the NCHSAA Men’s 100 meter finals.

In Women’s Track, Alyssa Rowe Thompson received the Sprinters MVP Award. Kyarah Littlejohn received the Throwers MVP Award. Nylasia Brown received the Women’s Runner of the Year Award. Ziavia Calvin received the Most Improved Award. Amare Cade received the Most Improved Thrower Award. Taylor Bennett, Ny’Lasia Brown, Ziavia Calvin, Aquariah McIntosh, Emma O’Connell, Anhai Peoples, Malaysia Smith and Alyssa Rowe Thompson were all named to the Central Carolina Conference Women’s Track Team. Alyssa Rowe Thompson was named Central Carolina Conference Female Sprinter of the Year. Amare Cade, Makayla Easterling, Kyarah Littlejohn, Aquariah McIntosh and Alyssa Thompson Rowe all received the LSHS academic award for maintaining a 3.0 or higher GPA. Nylasia Brown, Ziavia Calvin, Emma O’Connell, Anhai Peoples, Diavion McLeod, Lynda Stewart and Barbara Terry all received the North Carolina Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 and higher. Aquariah McIntosh, Zavia Calvin, Ny’Lasia Brown and Alyssa Thompson Rowe finished first in the NCHSAA Women’s 2A 4 X 100 meter relay setting a new state record for Women’s 2A with a time of 48.04 seconds. Alyssa Thompson Rowe finished 2nd in the NCHSAA Women’s 100 meter hurdles. Alyssa Thompson Rowe finished 4th in the NCHSAA Women’s 100 meter dash. Ziavia Calvin, Ny’Lasia Brown, Taylor Bennett and Aquariah McIntosh finished 3rd in the NCHSAA Women’s 4 X 200 meter relay. Ny’Lasia Brown, Malaysia Smith, Anhai Peoples and Ziavia Calvin finished 4th in the NCHSAA Women’s 4 X 400 meter relay. Kyarah Littlejohn finished 11th in the NCHSAA Women’s 2A Shot Put.

Mollie Zehmer and William Blackerby both received a scholarship awards from the Jacket Academic Boosters and the Lexington City Schools Athletic Boosters. Alondra Luna received the received the Most Improved Award by a student athlete. The Jacket Academic Boosters and the Lexington City Schools Athletic Boosters award three student athletes each year for the following categories: Female Highest GPA, Male Highest GPA and Most Improved Student Athlete.

Coach Jerome Dukes was the recipient of the 2019 North Carolina High School Athletic Association “Homer Thompson - Eight Who Make A Difference Award.” Coach Dukes received the award at the annual NCHSAA meeting held at UNC Chapel Hill – Smith Center on May 2, 2019.

Booster Club President Tom Sarette and Mirandia Bennett along with Coach Tim Holt all received the “You Rock” Awards for their dedication and service to Lexington City Schools Athletics.
